For American gymnasts Shayla Worley, her Olympic dreams were shattered after she suffered a broken fibula just below her knee. The accident occurred during warm up exercises during the Olympic selection camp thus ending her chances of making the U.S. women’s gymnastics team. The team will travel to Bejing on July 31, 2008. Competition begins on August 10th.
Dr. Scott Rand, a team physician told sources “It’s unlikely she’d be able to compete. Shayla is currently in Huntsville Memorial Hospital in Texas. She is undergoing extensive evaluations to determine the most appropriate course of treatment and whether or not she will need surgery.
