A few weeks after Bob Woodruff’s traumatic brain injury while reporting in Iraq, his wife decided that their four children had to be allowed to see him.

“He was still in a coma, and his brain was swollen through the hole in his skull like a popover,” Lee Woodruff told a sold-out crowd Tuesday at a dinner organized by the TIRR Foundation. “But the kids were starting to think I was lying to them. They were starting to think he was dead.”
